legend & lore
Before the Underground, Kael survived as a street fighter: a thug by circumstance, not by nature. He roamed the City raiding stores and clashing with others like him, but he lived by a strict code: never harm children, the elderly, or those who couldn’t defend themselves.
Anyone who tried to break those rules paid the price.
His reputation grew; either as a vigilante, or as a criminal, depending on who you asked. IronPaws tried more than once to subdue him, and when that failed, to recruit him. That was when Kael understood the truth: he had overstayed his welcome above ground.
In the Underground, the elderly came to know him as Ky, a direct contradiction from his nickname above ground, the Underdog. Feared by those who preyed on the weak, and fiercely loyal to everyone else, Caligo met him on his first day below. Skeptical at first, she watched him intervene again and again, protecting others without hesitation. Trust followed action.
Not long after, Caligo appointed Kael the unofficial title of head of self-defence. He didn’t ask for the role, but he carried it like everything else: with quiet strength and an unbreakable sense of responsibility. Soon enough, he became the foundation of Caligo’s trust.

from concept to card
Kael’s design reflects a life shaped by survival, not choice. His heavy build is the result of years of physical labor, work that began far too early. As an orphan on the streets, he survived by taking whatever jobs kept him fed, from hauling crates through the back rooms of neonburn bars to running protection in places no one else wanted to stand.
Time left its mark. Scars are visible and unapologetic, carrying the weight of fights he didn’t start but finished. His unkempt hair and rough features give him an intimidating presence, yet there’s an underlying familiarity to his face, the kind of warmth that feels like an older brother: quick to put his siblings (cue Ace) in a headlock, just as quick to make sure no one else ever would.
That duality defines him. The same strength forged in survival now fuels his role as a vigilante. He doesn’t seek conflict, but when Iron Paws corner the vulnerable, he steps in without hesitation, unarmed, but is always the one to walk away in victory.
Kael’s design avoids polish by intention. He is not built to impress, he is solid, grounded, and impossible to ignore when it matters most.
